From a flyer recently distributed to all Army personnel by the Army Intelligence and Security Command. The hotline has received 19,000 calls since it was established last winter.

!!! ESPIONAGE !!!

You have seen it on television. Read about it in the newspapers. Heard about it on the radio. Walker (Navy). Chin (CIA). Cavanaugh (Air Force). Miller (FBI). Helmich (Army).

WHO IS THE TARGET?

You, your family, the Army, and our country.

WHAT ARE THEY AFTER?

Military information (classified or unclassified).

WHEN?

Always (it is an ever-present threat).

WHY?

To defeat you (in the next war).

WE NEED YOUR HELP TO COUNTER THIS THREAT

How can you help? There are two things you can do. First, identify who they are by answering one or all of the following:

1. DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE who makes frequent short trips out of the country—unofficial—over long weekends—to places such as Canada, or Central or South America?

2. DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE who is called at work by someone with a foreign accent who refuses to give a name or leave a message?

3. DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE who brags about his/her involvement in “James Bond”–type activities?

4. DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE who has been going to a foreign embassy or consulate, or who is involved in business with a foreign government?

5. DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE who has come into the office in the morning and returned a document to the safe?

6. DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE who always has a lot of unexplained money? Second, report your suspicions to someone whose job it is to investigate suspected cases of espionage … someone who knows.
