U.S. Attorney Scandal—Kansas City: Only Republican Activists Need Apply

By Scott Horton

Bradley Scholzman, who headed the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice before being reassigned to lead a voter suppression project for the GOP in the guise of serving as U.S. attorney in Kansas City, once told an interviewer that he worked hard to “depoliticize the hiring process” at Justice.

Today, we learn that that all depends on what the meaning of “depoliticize” is. For Mr. Scholzman, “depoliticize” means insure that no one who’s a Democrat, an Independent, or a suspect Republican (say, a supporter of John McCain) need apply. Jobs go strictly to “loyal Bushies.”
