Curt Weldon Transfers Campaign Money to Legal Defense Fund

By Ken Silverstein

Remember former Congressman Curt Weldon? He’s the one currently under federal investigation for allegedly steering business to a lobbying firm headed by his daughter. And now running an international consulting firm in Washington, and using the contacts he established in Congress to steer business his own way.

Well, Federal Election Commission records show that last Thursday Weldon formally shut down his congressional campaign fund. And guess where he transferred the remaining money, roughly $10,000, which his contributors had given him? That’s right, to The Weldon Legal Expense Trust, which pays his lawyers.

Perfectly legal, needless to say. It’s nice to be a member of Congress, even a former member being investigated by the feds.
