Andrews Sullivan posted an item today noting National Review’s endorsement of Mitt Romney. He cited an article of mine that said Romney had previously given money to the magazine.
The New York Times originally reported on Romney’s 2006 donation to National Review. It said the money went to the nonprofit National Review Institute to sponsor an anniversary dinner celebrating the magazine’s website. Like Sullivan, I don’t think that National Review’s endorsement was connected to Romney’s contribution, though it’s clear from examining Romney’s pattern of contributions during the past few years that he’s been dispensing money in hopes of winning support from conservative organizations.
