Thursday Lamentations

Adjust

jeremiah1

Listen to a performance of the Lamentations of Jeremiah, composed in 1565 by Thomas Tallis, from a 1995 recording by the King’s Singers. The work was composed to be performed on Maundy Thursday, following text from the Book of Lamentations (???????,) in the Latin Vulgate with Hebrew letters set at the beginning of each section. The Lamentations have generally been understood to relate to the destruction of Jerusalem in the sixth century BCE. The Latin text can be followed here.
