From a virtual Sacramento Superior Court hearing held on February 25.

clerk: Hello, Mr. Green?

scott green: Yes.

clerk: Hi. Are you available for trial? It kinda looks like you are in an operating room right now.

green: Yes sir, I’m in an operating room. Yes, I’m available for trial. Go right ahead.

clerk: Okay. Let me just briefly advise you that the proceedings are being livestreamed on YouTube. That’s because traffic trials are required by law to be open to the public. Since we are limiting physical access to the courtroom, that’s how we are making them open to the public. Okay?

green: Okay.

clerk: If I could get you to raise your right hand for me, please. Do you solemnly state under penalty of perjury that the testimony you provide today will be the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?

green: Yes, sir.

clerk: Thank you very much.

commissioner: So can everybody hear me?

green: Yes, sir.

commissioner: What I’m looking at is Scott Douglas Green’s case. So, unless I’m mistaken, I’m seeing a defendant that’s in the middle of an operating room, appearing to be actively engaged in providing services to a patient. Is that correct, Mr. Green?

green: Yes, sir.

commissioner: Or should I say Dr. Green?

green: That’s okay.

commissioner: I do not feel comfortable for the welfare of the patient if you’re in the process of operating.

green: Sir, I have another surgeon right here who is doing the surgery with me, so I can stand here and allow them to do the surgery.

commissioner: I don’t think that’s appropriate. I think we’re going to have to come up with a different date when you’re not actively attending to the needs of the patient. Let me see if I can get a different date here.

green: I apologize, your honor, to the court. Sometimes surgery doesn’t go as—

commissioner: You know? It happens.
