    Dear Editor:

Sleep is a more fundamental inner state than being awake, which deals with the outside world. The inner state evolved first, as with all animals. The inner state consists of all the emotions and their conflicting directions–but eventually resulting in only one course of action. Autism is merely a decision by the inner self that it just doesn’t want to deal with the outside world. Treatments of autism can only work if the outside world is made more appealing than not.

    Sincerely,

    Carl Olson
