ABC News is reporting that the British Crown Prosecution Service is expected to announce imminently the indictment of Andrei Lugovoi, and possibly also Dimitri Kovtun, for the murder of Alexander Litvinenko. The murder occurred through the delivery of a lethal dose of radioactive Polonium-210. Both Lugovoi and Kovtun are closely linked to the Russian Federal Security Service, and Lugovoi is said to have contacts reaching high into the Kremlin.
Reports ABC’s Brian Ross:
Investigators concluded, based on forensic evidence and intelligence reports, that the murder was a “state-sponsored” assassination orchestrated by Russian security services.
Lugovoi and Kovtun are thought to be in Russia. The Russian Government is not expected to agree to their extradition.
