Howard Kurtz of the Washington Post had a fawning story today about Bret Baier, who has just replaced Britt Hume as the head of Fox’s Washington newscast. “Hume was a proud conservative who saw himself as providing a balanced counterweight to the media’s liberal slant,” Kurtz wrote. “Baier says he is an independent who does not bring an ideological approach to his work.”
Yep, there’s not an ideological bone in Baier’s body. Consider his 2006 hour-long special report on Donald Rumsfeld, “Why He Fights,” as wonderfully skewered here on the Daily Show. As Jon Stewart remarked, “Am I smelling the fair or the balanced?”
