The Associated Press reported a fairly amazing story over the weekend. It began:
As secretary of state, Henry Kissinger canceled a U.S. warning against carrying out international political assassinations that was to have gone to Chile and two neighboring nations just days before a former ambassador was killed by Chilean agents on Washington’s Embassy Row in 1976, a newly released State Department cable shows.
You’d think that might merit a little bit of news pick-up and outrage. But so far most major outlets have ignored or downplayed the story. On Sunday, the Washington Post ran a short version of the AP story. It probably helps that Kissinger has had so many close friendships over the years with top Post editors and executives.
